Got to get a new pc, this one's just about had it. It won't even play videos now, it just jumps along from still to still about every 30 seconds  When I boot it up I turn it on and go and make a coffee, sometimes it's up and running other times it isn't, takes another ten minutes or so. :(

Thought about just buying one off ebay, but what do I need ? Needs to play vids, needs to run photoshop etc, needs card reader and all the other bits and bobs.
What should I be looking for spec wise ?

Thinking about it rod an email would be a better idea as he will see it quicker, he doesn't get on here much unless he's needed and does most forum updates etc offline.

Tried the WPC route but it didn't work for me :D

Sounds like you are the same as me - uses the PC for various programs including photo editing etc but do not play games on it ...

My preference is Intel i3 / i5 / i7 processor, minimum of 4GB memory, 1GB graphic card, minimum 500GB hard drive, DVD writer / reader and memory card reader (this could be a USB external box or internal box to fit into the computer) and Windows 7

This system from Novatech is what I would consider as minimum spec for you:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/pc/range/nova ... ti146.html

If you are running Windows 7 32bit then 4GB memory is the maximum it will 'see' so I use Windows 7 64bit which will see all your memory ...

Hope that helps ... if you need any further help just let me know

Rod......Buy a Mac

Probably more expensive but a lot less hassle. Mine is 8 years old and going strong and has never given me any problems. I wouldn't go back to a PC that is expensive to run and needs an update every 5 minutes to keep ahead of the bad guys and up to date with the latest software. I reckon that I've saved loads over those 8 years...... and with a lot less hassle and aggravation compared to the previous pc which was slow to start up, bombarded you with crap and dire warnings and then stopped working for no apparent reason. Life is bliss.

That's exactly what I use it for John  Checked out the link and now have some idea. Why windows 7 and not 8 (although I prefer XP)

Fizz, my future son in law keeps trying to get me to go the mac route but I don't know enough about computers to say yes or no  I just naturally thought about another pc with windows.
Are all the free programs such as abi word, firefox etc available and will it speak to my laptop / phone etc ? laptop is windows something and phone is Sony xperia (heaven knows what that works off)
