Hi, everyone. I guess I should make it clear I am not a tech type!. I am 70 yrs young and as far as hunting is concerned There isn't much I haven't done. I am now in the process of making a nv unit, up to now I haven't purchased any of the units I will need, but do have a clear idea of how I want it to be. There's a guy on you tube I think Roliade , he made one where all the parts where on a picatinee rail, that's how I want to go except I'll use a tube to mount things on. Now that's where everything stops I have no idea which camera, screen and illuminator I need!!, I do know I'd want a bullet camera, as to range I shoot cz452 its zeroed at 50 yds,and I shoot out to 100,but night shooting I limit my range to 80'ish, so there it is the nv must be capable of clear reticule/target image @ out to 100yds. As a OAP money is important so things have to be cheap otherwise my dream is dead!!. Sorry to intro myself with a plea for help, but a big thankyou for any guidance that's given. bodger

G'day, welcome to the forum.
Few quick questions.
Does your scope have parallax adjustment & what scope is it?
Do you ĥave 18650 batteries and charger?
What is your maximum budget? 200 pounds will cover screen, camera,torch, mounts, batteries,charger and cabling. That will give a rig capable of 200 meters with a good scope. If you can't go that high then corners and capability must be cut.
If your scope isn't suitable, then a new one will be required. I probably will not reply for 24 hours, but others may chip in.
For most builds we use the E700 camera, which is the board or box camera version of the EJ230 used by Rolaidss, as there are cheaper or more secure means of mounting it.

Get back to us with the above and we'll come up with a parts list or old build discussion to suit you.

I cant remember the make of my scope!, I did a diy camo on it, I think it is a nicko 9 x40, thanks for your reply, I don't want to use a board camera I prefer the bullet type as it will be more suitable for my planned layout,also I'm not looking for perfection in its function hence the worry of cost as long as it gives a workable image I'll be happy my budget wont go much more than £70 so there it is. But thanks again, perhaps a member might have a nv set that they've upgraded from and would be willing to sell there used one on. bodger

The scope may or may not work.
Generally parallax adjustment is required. If your scope has adjustable at the ocular lens you may be able to fudge it. If the front lens can be screwed in or out then again you may be able to make it work. But then it will not work as a day scope. I have parallax adjustable scopes, Bushnell Legends. I have to set the parallax between 20 & 30 yards to have it perfect out to 70 yards and useable to 200. Set above that and the scope blurs out.
So that will be a hurdle. You may build a kit and find the scope does not work.

You don't give enough info as to how you want to attach the unit. We can't recommend parts if you already have 'the plan' in your head, but don't tell us.

The same info may be used with a straight board camera off Ebay or a cheaper boxed board camera off AliExpress.

The standard screen is a 5 inch reversing camera screen, such as this one, for around 18 pounds from China:

Or you can go with roughly half the resolution and get a 3.5 inch screen for around 10 pounds.

Would that be just 9x40... or 3-9x40?

I cant find a 9x40m nikko but if thats what it is then minimum 9 mag will need a heffin decent camera to see through it with a heffing gurt illuminator too. If its a minimum 3 mag you'll possibly get it work at minimal range with a cheap CCD sensor camera

You might find somebody with a cheap bullet cam but will probably struggle to find an add-on rig already made up with one.

Basic board camera for 19 pounds (needs a 16mm lens), better board camera in housing 38 pounds, (You will probably get stung for VAT on these). E700 60 pounds including, EJ230 96 pounds including. Links from here:

5 pound lens
3 pounds worth of plumbing parts,
18 pound screen
21 pound battery from Elwirecraft
29 pounds for a T20 IR torch that uses 18650 batteries.
10 pounds for Nitecore charger for torch batteries from Banggood
13 pounds for a pair of Panasonic batteries from Banggood.
20 pounds worth of mounts.

Note a lot of these bits and pieces are priced from China, will cost more in the UK and you may get stung for VAT.

Basically 150 pounds to produce a 100 meter capable unit. 200 pounds gives you the E700, adjustable torch mount and a 200 meter unit.

Sorry to be a downer, but I'm not aware of a cheaper way of doing it.
