When I first bought it I wasn't impressed with the way the lay of the land looked and was messing with everything. Then a day or so later it dried up and the picture was a different story. If I'm looking at something hundreds of yards away I 'may' go into the colour palettes if I just can't distinguish what it is but in reality 99% of the time its white to spot and occasionally black to identify if I can't work out what it is. What I've learnt is I don't really need the colour palettes but there are others who do use them but most of all I don't 'need' to tweak anything. The unit is on auto, turn it on and crack on, just as everyone else has said previously. You can adjust the objective to try and get the heat source in focus but again 90% of the time its set for a few hundred yards and its fine for most distances. Unless you want to look at your feet, then you definitely need to adjust the focus for a clear picture.
That's what I like about the guide, there's no real faffing or tweaking its practically just pick up and point. I don't know if all thermals are the same as I've never used any others but would be most interested in hearing so.

Fizz, could you outline the differences between the new model and the existing, please?

Thanks.

Now you've got me.... Having a quick look..........

From the Pulsar website the only difference in the basic spec is the 50m greater range of the S
In the blurb underneath the S has extras. viz:

Operating modes
The Quantum S suggests three operating modes, each designed to deliver best possible image in specific viewing conditions. The modes are as follows: “City” (enhanced contrast), “Forest” (low contrast) and “Identification” (improved rendering of hot objects’ details).

Calibration
The Quantum S suggests three calibration modes: silent manual mode (“M”), automatic (“A”) and semiautomatic (“H”). The “A” mode implies calibration without user participation (process initiation (actuation of the shutter) takes place automatically). In the “H” mode the user decides on his own if calibration is required based on the image quality. Button “Cal” is pressed in this mode. Manual calibration (“M”) is carried out by pressing the button when the lens cap is closed. The “M” mode is recommended for hunting due to silent operation.

From what I've seen on YT/Scott Country's/TJ's websites etc the rest of the features are as before..... black/white hot, zoom, dimensions(?)
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_q ... llGHIkAiAs
http://www.scottcountry.co.uk/products- ... a-4995.htm - good description of features etc on here.

And of course it's cheaper!! So much so that I was told that TJ's sent the old versions back as they couldn't discount them enough without losing money. difference is down to Pulsar manufacturing bits in house and a different design on the expensive germanium lens bit.

SC showing them at £2899.99..... couldn't see them on Blades n Bows.

Looks like mine will be in on Monday.... unless it arrives Saturday.... being posted tomorrow.

Thanks Fizz.

Seems to be a discrepancy between Thomas Jacks statement of battery life, as opposed to Scott Country's, but certainly looks like a good unit.

Bet it's like waiting for Santa :P

I never even looked at the battery life..... 5 hours would be good! And I was wondering if I should have ordered a battery pack with it.

Good stuff.... Looking forward to it.
