Re: Metal detecting
Don't think about it GET ONE!
Can't help you regarding the minelab. Mines a carrot and there's no way in the world I'd want to be without it as it makes life SO much easier. I'd have been pi$$ed off ages ago just using the detector because often times you think it's a false alarm because you can't see anything in the soil but on using the probe it turns out to be something like the tiniest bit of metal like the crimping bit on a spade connector.
My method is detect, dig a u shaped turf, flip over, scan with the detector again to see if it's in the turf or still in the hole and then get the carrot pointy stick to sift through the soil or turf. Another tip is to have a litte trowel to scratch at the hole if it's deeper so you don't chop a hundred carrot necklace up with the shovel
On another note I was out with mine for half hour again earlier but kept finding coke. Unfortunately it was not the type I could sell to the locals so how do I go about discriminating against it?
It's coming up as two tones but once dug it's sort of balancing out on 1 but whilst detecting it's jumping from one side of the scale to the other so I'll have half the blocks missing if I discriminate against every block. Also I'm getting loads of iron so by the time I discriminate against everything I'm only finding sheeps sh@t
I'm just not confident on what I dig because the same target can give different readings on the scale. I'll be fit digging every target but there's feckin holes everywhere so is there a way of absolutely 'Knowing' the sound to distinguish the target because I'm struggling at the moment. I don't mind not digging iron but I'm just worried I'll miss something if I haven't got it running on full cocoa..

Re: Metal detecting
About £90 I think but they knocked a bit off with the deal combined with the detector.
It seems to detect at about 4 inches away and then buzzes faster and faster until it's a solid beeeeeeeep when it's touching the target. The only fault I've found is if you use it like a fencing bar and press too hard into the ground you can get a false beep but once you realise what you're doing it isn't a problem. I honestly feel I wouldn't enjoy digging the target the same without one

Re: Metal detecting
One on the bay at the moment. A month old @ £71.50..
Re: Metal detecting
Be very careful, a lot of clone garretts about and they're rubbish. I got collared with one but managed to get my money back
Either buy new from a reputable dealer (Regtons) or ask for a guarantee it's genuine. The clones are not any good at all.
Genuine propointer,
The Garrett PRO-POINTER has both audible and vibrating alarms to indicate the presence of metal
objects. The alarms increase in intensity as the PRO-POINTER is moved closer to the metal target.
The clones don't.

Coke is a bummer James, no way round it really as it gives off different signals. If you discriminate it out you'll miss stuff
As a farmer, can you tell me, where the hell has it come from? Who spreads coke on their fields ?
