I don't think there's anything in a digital NV setup that would be affected by magnets.
The only exception to that would be if a CRT scrren (ex camcorder) was being used as the display.
I think that tubed NV might be quite badly affected if the magnets were strong enough and close enough.

Looks like you're correct, Bruce. Unsure why I thought that, to be honest :? Was there an old wive's tale about magnets damaging memory cards or something :?

I'm babbling

They won't damage memory cards, but they might damage credit cards or anything else with a magnetic strip in it.
Having said that, it takes a strong magnet (common enough these days) and it needs to be very close to the card to wipe the magnetic strip)

Had a good go with the bino harness tonight, worked out very well, it certainly caters for my needs,

Job done!

I'm surprised more people don't use them with Nv mono's and such like.

Anyway, you've got to expand on last night...did you do any good??..

Well last night was all about getting on big open ground & giving the 38's a good distance work out & me learning to judge distance & hopefully taking a few rabbits,

my shooting buddy also needed a lesson in not having a ND & sometimes you need a little bit of Parallax adjustment to get the best view, after complaining that he couldn't see fu*k all, I took the rifle of him, (Anschutz 1717 Monte Carlo in 17HMR) made a adjustment, bang job done, his words were oh I forgot about that, we were bitching like a married couple last night,
That aside we had some good shooting, I think the closest was 65 paces & the furthest 131 paces, a few things I was very impressed with was, I could spot rabbits out at about 250 yards & ID by movement, this was over ground that I had shoot loads of times with the range finder, I really didn't think I would ID rabbits that far,
The other thing that I love is being able to shoot 3 to 4 & then just walk in on the heat signature & pick them up, when using the NV you usually lose track of a couple & spend longer looking for them than shooting them, unless you put a torch on which I think sort of defeats the object of having NV, The other thing I enjoyed was putting rabbits down in piles of four & fives & being able to keep having a view of them as I walked around the rest of the shoot & on my return they still had very good heat signatures over a hour on,
on the down side I saw 3 different foxes & didn't get a fix on any of them,
first one was a sitter, walked to the edge of the barns, turned on the thermal, sat on its ass 40 yards away watching us fox No.1 my mate still had the rifle on his shoulder & sticks flailing in the wind,
No.2 was sat on the edge of hedgerow, first spotted about 180 yards away, as we needed to get in closer, I suggested making our way to a large Oak, knowing that would get us into about 85 yards as I had a high seat in it & already know the range to the hedge, very nearly got there but obviously spooked it, vanished
No.3 was crossing the field about 200 yards away kept stopping to look at us but we just couldn't get closer, even tried a call but it wasn't interested
Next visit out there I think I will take the center fire

very pleased with the thermals performance & the bino harness trial worked well, I did notice a drop in clarity when we had a bit of drizzle for a little bit, the heat signature was still very good, it was just the surrounding vegetation that seemed to blend in not giving the some definition

I wear a RiversWest Field Pro smock in olive.... that's got a bino pocket on the front with a smaller, zipped phone or wallet sized pocket within it - possibly a bit tight for getting my swaro 8.5x42's in if I've got other stuff in there but plenty of room in there for a spotter, ammo, torch, fox-pro control etc etc.

But the other good thing is the handwarmer pocket/pouch..... it's more like a cavernous black hole! 8" zips each side and loads on room in there...... I've carried the 14, the 38S, torches, gloves, spotter - I can get truckloads in there, even room for my hands.

I use a couple of the 7dayshop 26cm neoprene lens sacks for the 14 and the 38S - ideal. http://www.7dayshop.com/catalogsearch/r ... q=neoprene.

Have to say I'm impressed by the smock itself..... ok it's a bit boil in the bag if you're tabbing hard in warmer weather as it's not as breathable as it might be, but I've worn it beating, on the hill, stalking, high seats and it's a good bit of kit. The tough fleece is waterproof, windproof.... it's got a generous hood that doesn't flop (a godsend!), a high neck and a long tail so you don't get a wet arse. :lolno: and it's silent with no velcro in sight!

I'm a 42" Large and there's room for a buffalo/montane fleece top underneath. Just needs a wash and a tumble dry to re-invigorate the waterproofing. I will buy another which is not often something I do as there's always something better out there......

's me.

that looks a decent coat fizz. unless its persisting it down i wear an m65 jacket, its my every day work coat and it usually stinks of sheep so i figure its pretty good camo too lol
plus i never go anywhere without a 1.5ltr flask and i have cross some pretty rough ground so if i have to climb a drystone wall or vault a fence i can just dump rifle and bag the other side and i'm nice and nimble....works for me
