IN this thread: Gumbies going "When I was a lad...."

I'll contribute. Saw some classic car club Falcon GTHOs drive past this morning. When I was a lad they were the fastest sedan on the planet and I wanted one. Does that make me a classic too? Wonder if I can get a couple of the car show booth babes to pose for the camera while polishing my panels? Not bloody likely.

Ha ha, you ain't far wrong there Adam, lived in old terraced house with communal toilet on the cobbled yard. Fetched coal in a pram from the coal yard down the road with my brother. Can still remember the overcoats piled on the shared bed to keep us warm, then scraping ice off the inside of the windows to see if it had snowed. !! Used to go next door to the barbers house (he was posh) to watch a telly program very occasionally, he had the only telly in the street
Oh, and bath time was in a tin bath in front of the fire

Aye, times were ard but at least we didn't live in a cardboard box in't middle of street

Rodders, you just explained the general intellectual superiority of the Australian people. Any smart Pom would have said bugger that and scrounged up the 10 pounds for boat ride.

We had a coin operated gas heater in the bathroom. It took the big old copper pennies that were long out of circulation. No cash box, we had one penny that we would feed through the slot multiple times.

I can quite clearly remember my parents discussing that option, came close to us upping and away. Must have been the usual family ties that stopped us in the end, more's the pity. I'd have made a good Aus, I'm happiest when surrounded by nothing man made. I could quite happily live in the outback and see no-one for months at a time
