Rick, get yourself a bino pack for it. You can just drop it in the top when you are ready to switch to the gun and won't clunk or bang on the gun or scope like when bino's do when they are hanging off your neck. I'ts no problem even wearing two bino packs if you also want to take an Nv spotter. You can swing them around your side to shoot prone or just lie on them.Rickfitz wrote:there is no way I would have got this Vixen without the thermal, It did get a bit awkward switching from thermal to NV, then back on the thermal because it had moved before I got set, a neck strap would have definitely helped or my shooting buddysunndog wrote:i was out with mine earlier. watching next doors sheep on a hillside from 500-700yrds away
at one point there was a tree about 70yrds in front of me obscuring part of the sheep field...i could make out 3 sheep through the branches with the naked eye.
looking through the thermal its as if the tree isn't there and i could see 8 sheep clear as a bell
i can see me being impressed with this for quite a while

The guide comes with a decent bag and neckstrap too but the beauty of the bino pack is you hardly notice it on your chest and the thermal slips in easily. You do need to do the top up if you intend on doing handstands or crawling through muck though. It's practically as quick to drop it in as it is to leave it go and swing off your neck. My thermals just left in it with spare batteries in the pockets for it, lasers and torches along with optical wipes, mouth caller etc. My other ones got my Nv mono with illuminator attached in it all the time, it's just a case of grab them and go. It even allows a mono with a torch like a 501 mounted to slip in easily. For me personally it's probably one of my most useful shooting accessories. Not just for on foot but I drive a fair way on a quad over a lot of rough ground so having the thermal safe is one less thing to worry about. Even jumping in and out of the truck it's simple as it's out of the way not like a back pack. Don't suppose everyone would agree and they are a bit of a cost but when I've got thousands of pounds worth hanging off my neck I'm quite happy to try and protect it but most of all it's the convenience to slip the thermal in and out when you're switching back and fore as you say.

it sounds like a good idea, do you prefer a Specific make or type or whatever you get your hands onFox Hunter wrote:The guide comes with a decent bag and neckstrap too but the beauty of the bino pack is you hardly notice it on your chest and the thermal slips in easily. Re: Delivery of 38's
I bought mine from Alaska Guide creations a couple of years ago but there seems loads of choices available now. As long as it's comfortable and keeps the rain off along with a few pockets I doubt you'd go wrong with anything. They come in different sizes so just make sure it's to fit a decent size set of bino's. The only other thing to maybe consider is the hood fastening. Mine is a strap and buckle which attaches and detaches quickly but most importantly silently if you keep hold of the two lugs either side whilst you're working it. Some are magnetic but I'm not sure I'd like to rely on those not opening unintentionally but having never used one they might even be great, it really wouldn't be much quicker than a buckle though.
Here you go, this is where I got mine but when I was looking I was struggling to find similar products over here. The guy seems a top bloke. After telling him how pleased I was with the first one and a few emails back and fore just nattering about what we do he sent the second bino pack with two little free gifts, a knife and a fox squeaker (the mouse squeak type) so it was a nice touch and surprise on opening it. There might well be better or cheaper around but I've never regretted my purchases from him..

Just a thought. I'd tend to wary of the ones with magnetic closures. Might be fine for binos, but I'm wondering how it would affect digital nv or thermal.

I now use a bino harness under my jacket when walking. Tend to get hot so unzip jacket. Works well but if up a highseat wear bino harness over jacket as it is cold and movement would be restricted.
Works well for me.
