Rod, there are various sensors that you could use, ultrasonic, retro-reflective etc all that will need digging into the ground and won't like getting dirty.

A security pressure mat placed on the ground covered by the gravel and the truck parked on it who the hell would know it's there? As for stapling the cable, bury it!

Never thought of that Mark Am I a dumb ass or what. As you say, if it's buried no-one will suspect it's there so won't try to disable it Is there any particular sort I need or just search the bay / google for a pressure sensor mat ?

Security chain wouldn't take 15 secs to remove nowadays. Cordless angle grinder or liquid nitrogen, job over in seconds.

Vehicle tracker would be found and disabled in minutes with freely available scanner.

Fog horn and lights need to be connected to sensor, as Mark says a pressure pad may be the answer.
Need to know how the pressure pads work though as they're made for folk stepping on them, not a constant load that's then removed. Do they work on air pressure triggering a switch or do they have contacts inside? Would the weight of a LR permanently jam one together so it stayed closed even when weight removed?

Thought about those, but then considered my son coming in when it's lashing down with rain. Do you think he's going to raise the bollards

It needs to be something that's no inconvenience to set, not easily visible, difficult to disarm / remove quietly, lets all hell loose when it goes off !!

So far I think a proximity sensor or pressure pads win. Still wide open to ideas though

Apparently it's quite common round here now, the new fad. The last one was a spate of folk cutting roller shutters open with Stihl saws, in full view of the road !!! Just cut a hole through it and walk in to rob the place

neh, i literally never gave it a thought tbh...

a mate returned home to find the garage door had been hacked at with an axe.. they didnt get in but sheesh the racket that must have been making.
