Vice President Fararge
Re: Vice President Fararge
Well rodp its not my fault. And I haven't encountered what i would call bad humour just yet. I enjoy the banter from you guys as i have led a very sheltered life. Bring it on. The only important flow volume that comes to mind is that pumped out of a Real Ale Barrel into an Imperial pint glass. What does concern me is has Mr Putin tapped into our Northern Pipe Supply line without our knowledge. Bruce, I know nothing of oil but am inspired by your passion. I went to the Granite City once and it was dour but somehow alive and forgiving. I remember a sort of ornamental lake (not far from our Motel) in amongst manicured gardens and shrubbery. I bought a little penknife in a shop there @ 1980 which i treasure to this day. Carbon steel made in Sheffield. By the way where the devil did Pythagoras enter the fray. All i know is that English hot water cylinders have had the internal coil dimensions reduced from 28mm to 22mm thus creating a reduced flow of some 40% throughput according to an empirical study by the University of Belfast - published. I put this to my local plumber who promptly had an apoplectic fit and still suffers from the after shakes. May your boiler roar while British Gas rubs its hands.

The coil size makes little difference to the flow if the pipes in and out are only 22mm, you would get better thermal transfer from the larger bore pipe but no better flow.
I think Pythagoras was a Greek plumber, no, wait a minute, it was Archimedes. Must have been because it was he that invented the screw water pump

Re: Vice President Fararge
Kinda getting back to the origin of this thread, it seems to me that it's the politicians particularly the "Little Englander" brand like Farage and those who still believe we have an Empire that think we should get out of Europe.
Their position is actually based on not liking being told what to do by "Johnny Foreigner"
In Scotland we have the ironic situation of the SNP wanting to leave the UK because they don't like being told what to do by Westminster, but wanting to be in the EU where they will be told what to do by "Johnny Foreigner"
IMHO, in both cases, politicians who have climbed the greasy pole of politics so that they have some level of power and authority, don't want to see that reduced or removed by another authority in another country.
In other words, they don't give a shit about you and me, it's their jobs and their standing in society they're trying to protect.
Cheers

Re: Vice President Fararge
Umm. Well it was definitely Archimedes who re plumbed my new hot water tank into the airing cupboard because i was definitely screwed. However in his defence he made a lovely sculpture job and altered the layout to my satisfaction. Consequently the new pump and to some extent the overflow/vent side (vented S plan system) and pipework now run much hotter on the pump side. It is now 22mm pipe in and out but previously around a 28mm mix and match pipework plus 28mm tank coil and the pump side (now Grundfos Auto) ran much cooler. So my thinking is that it was a more efficient system previously cos now it takes slightly longer for the system to heat up. I wondered why he didn't answer my emails. Thank you for your words of wisdom.

Idle hands = to much time for bad humour.

Re: Vice President Fararge
Difficult call on Little Englander. Watching the Dimbleby Question Time programme the other night (which I rarely do) there was an accountant banking chappie who had done his own calculation to counter the Cameron claims. He said that after 10 years accordingly if we stopped paying into the EU we could generate around 17 trillion English pounds enough to pay off the national debt - American I assume. It follows that it may benefit the Americans if we stay in debt. The EU does not keep any worthwhile or meaningful accounts regarding expenditure - so we don't actually know where our money goes. We just know that some comes back. We know that Germany lent or gave Greece around 5 billion Euros to buy 2 conventional German submarines and more tanks and armour than France and the UK put together can apparently muster together. I have the recording of the British journo (Simon Reeve) standing next to a line of Leopard Tanks etc mobilized in downtown Athens I think (probably not Athens). Looked like American planes flying overhead at the parade. I find it quite worrying that we are part of an out of control system that is no longer accountable to its lesser members or indeed itself. There remains a hell of a lot that we just do not know and evidently are not entitled to fathom. I think you are right to question the likes of Farage and Cameron notwithstanding your own first lady, Merkel and Obama to name but a few. And all the world is a chequer board of nights and days - written by an
American I believe.
American I believe.

Your spot on with that quote Bruce
The levels of Government in Wales is >>>
Town Council
Rural Council
County Council
Welsh Assembly
Westminster
House of Lords
European Union
not a bit of wonder that we are "foocked" as we have more Chiefs than Indians, we are all doomed to pay for the lifestyle of tens of thousands of bureaucrats, autocrats, eurocrats and any other crats that are part of their entourage.

Re: Vice President Fararge
hi hairyyoda. um methinks our living standards have actually gone up a gear in recent years and public expenditure has tried to keep up with the pace.
Now its crunch time and the politicians are panicking because they don't actually know the answers other than to keep trying to balance the books and throw money at the problem - any problem except the length and breadth of the Euro. I think you are right to be concerned and apportion blame as do I. I don't actually know any one who has the answers to balance opinion. I am just an ordinary working class chap in the same mess. We can stay in the mess and hope for the best or tidy up the mess and leave for a better future maybe. It will take conviction from all of us. There are just two camps - BoJo or DaveCam - take your pick. And by the way there aren't enough trees locally to cut down to fuel your new mode of 'off grid' living enterprise. Scrap value is going down and i can't bear to destroy works of art.

Re: Vice President Fararge
Of no relevance to the opening thread topic, but worth thinking about anyway
Texas has an area of 268,820 square miles and the Governor's salary for 2013 was around 150,000 dollars
Wales has an area of 8,015 square miles and has around 22 Local Authority Chief Executives administrating to a total population of a lot less than 4 million residents. So Wales is 33 times smaller than Texas but we have more than 21 of the "big chief kahunas bosses " in charge of our Local Authorities which only covers an area of less than a decent sized iceberg.
Makes you think a bit

Re: Vice President Fararge
I'm confused hairyyoda as I thought you lived in the USA. Now what i need to know is what do we import from Wales. We do trade with the US obviously but you try and find out specifically what those goods are. Welsh politicians and bureaucrats are the same as English p's and b's and French, German etc - they all live off the backs of the people. Eton boys are used to having fags.
