Think it all boils down to earning bonus when younger and on the trucks. One job I used to do was relining alloy tipper bodies and that entailed being in the body with angle grinder and sledge hammer. Good money but now paying the price

Good day rodp

Sorry to read about that, i also wish you speed recovery from the surgery.

A couple of ideas might help you to detect sounds:

1. If you use smartphones there are some apps that visualises the surrounding sound on your mobile screen, making your mobile phone a sound detecter if you will, just search for "audio spectrum visualizers", apps like:

Avisu - audio visualizer
Led audio spectrum visualizer

(i recommend you give it a try)

2. If you want there are some sound detecting devices for (deaf/near deaf) available, it basically vibrates to alarm you for the certain recorded sounds, that you make the device learn to detect or something.

I found this one for example:

You may also find more suitable stuff for your needs among "hearing disability surrounding sounds detecters", check websites like:

Be well

Hiya Midnight, those sound detectors sound a good idea, didn't know they existed. If Bruce reckons modifying the foxpro to an led warning can't be done I'll certainly look at one of those. I would prefer the caller to be a self contained unit, I think, but on the other hand securing one of those little units to it would be simple
I'll wait a while and See what Bruce says when he gets back from the Congo

You don't have to buy the a detecated device, you can turn your mobile phone into one by installing a simple 1£ application software, like the two mentioned or others.

Also you don't need to attach It to the FoxPro, you can open the software and simply hold the phone in your hand or on a rock or a tree, and it will react to the tinniest sound frequency coming from the FoxPro or the real fox or any movement around you, and the loader the sound the faster and higher the disturbance of the frequency bars on the screen will be, and those new mobile phones microphones are very sensitive they pick up sounds from very far distance especially at night.

If you go with the dedicated detecter that may have a vibration and a small led light alert, you may again either hold it in your hand, or wear it on belt or wrist or a pocket ...etc depends on the model you find, and it will do the same thing, you will be able to see or feel the sound when it comes out of the FoxPro or any other source.

But thr LED light on the FoxPro is a more practical solution, it is the best choice for the hunting situation.

The detecters can be more useful with the other normal day activity, like when someone calls you from another room for example.

I hope this was helpful.

P.S the two application software in my previous post are for Apple phones, I don't know if they work with android phones, but surely there are a lot of similar softwares for every mobile operating systems.

Yep got you... that's why I edited before i see your answer, no  about that, i only started these things recently, anyway anybody can install it for you, you will only use it, it doesn't require internet connection at all.

Leave it to Bruce he will read my posts and decides if it suits you, I wish i was there to help with the internet stuff, it's nothing at all, any mobile phone dealer can do it for 5 £ max.

Don't worry at all, Bruce will fix all problems soon, I'm sure he is the man, though i don't know him in person, but i've got a lot of help from him since my day one here, you guys have the privilege of knowing each others.

Sincerely Midnight

Rod,
Just had a quick poke inside my Foxpro Spitfire and I reckon it's doable.
The loudspeaker on my Foxpro is driven by an integrated circuit amplifier which has a pin which controls whether the amplifier powers the speaker or is muted.
Connect this pin to ground and the amplifier powers the speaker, connect the pin to battery voltage and the amplifier shuts down and the speaker is muted.
When you press the mute button, the receiver decodes the signal and changes the voltage on the shutdown pin
Everything is surface mounted, but I should be able to connect a wire to the shutdown pin and use the change in voltage there to make a small circuit which will operate an LED.
Your FX3 may be a different set up, but I doubt it.
You'd need to send it to me to do the work and of course, any warranty you might still have on the foxpro will be voided as soon as I open it up.

Cheers

Bruce

I like the idea of the LED as well. That seems clever. I have had the same problem as I couldn't hear the mouse squeaker on low.
Mind you I think I killed my Spitfire last night. flipping thing. I don't want to buy one of the others because I cant read the remote either and I cant afford the money for a new one. Do we know if anyone fixes forpros?

Might have to look at a ucaller or one of those icotech's.

jeez you wouldn't believe the amount of things that went wrong last night. but I did at least succeed in getting one. but that is a different story.
