Found this old button on a site where a castle once stood, it's not magnetic, any ideas what it could be made from?

Brass, bronze, pewter ? Hard to tell without actually holding it, scratch the back A LITTLE with a pin or something and see if you can tell by the colour.
It's certainly oldish by the looks of it which is all that matters really (it is to me  ) Nice find though, you may find quite a bit around that area

No I don't think so, it's not that well known to ppl in the area. My mate knows the farmer  so he let have a look on there.

Well I haven't been out with the detector since I first got it as I've been too busy but at 7 o'clock this morning I checked the batteries and took it for a spin...

Out last night I managed to drop a live round into dead fern, long grass and heather type scrub  I knew roughly where it dropped but it was hopeless looking with the torch as it had obviously passed through the surface of the scrub. Luckily I was shooting off a strainer post so knew exactly where my position was when I lost it. Anyhow back with the metal detector this morning but kept getting signals from the wire fence along with others. Out with the pro pointer to check the beeps and hey presto straight to the round. I now don't care if I never find that million pound stash, my detector has totally paid for itself with my peace of mind. They are certainly useful tools

It's coming to detecting weather again now. I don't do walking round a freezing cold, wet field looking for treasure, I do a gentle stroll in the sun and if I find anything it's a bonus
