Biff, I'd say cut your losses and get something with a bigger head that will gather more light from a wider part of the beam cone coming off the IR led.
There's a time and place for compact lens IR's, they are great for dedicated NVD' or Photon etc but 200 yards is more than that small lens will give by the time your image gets sucked through all the wrong lens coatings of a day-scope.

That is exactly what the first lens in my torch head does, sits about 10mm from the led, capturing pretty much all of the beam, and reduces the angle of beam cone so that the second lens is starting with as much of the beam as possible.Biff, I'd say cut your losses and get something with a bigger head that will gather more light from a wider part of the beam cone coming off the IR led.
I will continue with the small lens setup for now, and see how it goes, after all lasers don't have big front lenses, they just have lenses tailored for the job.
