to answer your other questions, the animals we hunt can't 'see' IR, although there is some evidence they can 'feel' it like we can feel the heat of a sunbeam. So we sit in the dark and look through IR sensitive / low light cameras used as monoculars (we call them spotters) and then shoot using a purpose built camera based scope ('dedicated' or 'scopeless') or a home made camera attachment on the back of a rifle scope ('add on').

To gain additional IR ilumination we use a torch. This can be a commercial unit (Nightmaster NM800, Pulsar 940) or a custom built/home built unit, normally a Uniquefire UF-T20 torch with Oslon Black 850nm LED or an Ultrafire WF501B with the same LED.
