Thanks for the advice guys!

I'm a member of BASC and emailed the firearms team on the first day. The guy that replied was very helpful, even offering to speak to someone he knows at the Met for me.
I told him to hold off for the moment as I don't want to piss anyone off a this stage of my application, but if the FEO continues next time I speak to him ill speak to BASC again.

Cheers
Paul

It sounds like he tries to put new applications through the hoops to try and put folks off.

Don't be put off, I was once turned down for another rimmy because he said I wouldn't get it, even though I had good reason.

I wanted one for dedicated nv, which I got in the end, I now have three rimfires.

Don't be put off.

Don't worry about pissing them off they aren't doing you any favours at the moment anyway. I'm sure that some of the Feo's make up there own rules and rely on people not taking them to task over it for fear of delays with their applications. Get Basc on it asap

It may put some people off but I’m very persistent, it’s very rare for somebody to put me off once I have decided on something.

I’ve done a lot of research and I would say I have enough knowledge and suitability and good reason to be granted FAC, only thing that is lacking is experience of the application process. That’s why it’s good to have access to such a great resource as this forum, as many of you have applied for a FAC in the past and many of you have endured being messed around by the FEO.

It's all too easy for FEO's to assume that because you are a new applicant with little experience of section 1 firearms that he may be able to bluff you into accepting restrictions that he wouldn't try on with someone who knows better. The better plan is to try and manipulate spending some chat time with him, perhaps on a permission walk round so he knows you know what is what.

If he tells you something you know is wrong, counter it with the factual information in a way that is not antagonistic if you can. I had very similar issues to your with one of our many local FEO's but the first instance visiting officer was thankfully a very likeable and helpful sporting shooter himself.

Good to hear, Paul.

So, did you get what you wanted? If so, what did you put in for?
