Huh - guess who still can't shake off 40 years of night shift bodyclock! Apparently the statins aren't helping that issue.
Anyway - the nice people at Optics Warehouse had agreed to compare the scope with others and said there was no discernable difference but I could have a replacement if I wished - which I accepted. I personally think the replacement is better with regard to the milky issue.
I fancied a scope/add-on stress test between the Sightron and my Hawke Varmint 3-12x42 before fitting it to the rifle and marking it in case I wanted to move it on. Some of you know what I'm like about minimal IR - and I think the best way to compare NV is to do it at its outer limits so I used a known 180 yard long field location with only a 50mm lens EVO torch IR having an AS pill in it so that the amount of graininess could help compare the image quality. E700 camera lens was 16mm.
I used a slip on DSA with the pod fitted to a mini weaver rail screwed to it so that absolutely everything would be the same: IR LED/lens/zoom, camera and PV110 DVR. Masking tape was used to make both eye bells similar diameter. I mostly use my rigs at about 8 or 10 mag so set both scopes to 9 mag - which allowed me to just frame 3 fence posts in the picture to show that similar mags were in use.
The Sightron won and I
will be keeping it for the 17REM.
I'll process and upload the video later today.
