How much of a rush are you in Rodders ? I come across plenty of good quality hand tools in farm sales and collective machinery sales, what size axe are you after ?. There are a few good old and modern makers that I would look out for like
Fiskars they make a good range of axes and billhooks Swedish steel  The old stuff with top quality steel Isaac Nash "worth good money", Elwell are a sought after maker, Brades made lots of billhooks, axes and slashers, Whitehouse is another good maker. If you can wait a few weeks I will get something in the post to you with Hermes and it is not going to cost more than £10.00 to £15.00 i'sh. My choice for light'ish branch work a good 24 inch bow-saw with Sanvik blades and a double handed billhook and a small old "closed port" Husqvarna that revs passed 15,000. A good bow-saw will do more work for less effort over a day on branch work than swinging a axe  Let me know Phil

Rodders, me bad person ? my guesstimate cost of purchase and delivery to your door step was badly over priced
at £10.00 to £15.00 "found you an Elwell hand axe for £3.25 at the Liberty car boot sale at 06.40 this morning
 will probably be able to get it in your hands for £3.50 to £4.50 delivery with Hermes
I can even provide you with a legitimate headed receipt for official business expense clawback
Photographs to follow shortly "and yes I know that I am out of time and a bit late but we can only try"

Phil

Elwell ? made in Wednesbury (another wannabe Black Country borough) ? I'd still have that Phil if you picked it up , just out of (can't think of the word I need, but just because it's locally made)

Let me know if you have it

Heres a quick pic

Image

Main working axes on the rack, lil ones like you've got coming on the cabinet to the right, fallers belt on the rack, axeroons and pickeroon on the middle hooks
slasher/cant hook/saw up top, and a couple of oddments on the floor

I don't carve many spoons (fecking lot of work just for a spoon  ) but that size i call a 'crafting' axe. Just a little fella for removing material quickly when you're making sommat

That elwell axe will be good steel, what sorta size is it phil?.....might have a number stamped on it somwhere

That's a nice selection there, one for every eventuality  I think Elwell will probably be the company that's now Elwell sections in Oldbury, I'll check it out.
probably will be a decent quality steel but the spec may not be too good, be better than Chinky stuff though.
