Good memories
Re: Good memories
Out of Town was first broadcast in !963, also there was an earlier program series in !959 called Gone Fishing in black and white. Jack Hargreaves also featured in the series Country Boy where inner city youngsters were shown about the country ways of life etc. he was also in very similar program like Out of Town called Old Country. Read his biography a number of years ago, very interesting life he had and easily earned the respect and title of a "champion of the countryside and it's ways" Ahead of his time really.
Thanks Phil.

Re: Good memories
Never seen him before. He has a very calm and educational manner about him that will have done lots of good back in the day. I dare say if that were to to be shown now it would make a few tree huggers think long and hard.

If you search youtube for "jack hargreaves" or "out of town" there are quite a few episodes on there , unfortunately i cant see them ever being repeated on tv in this country due mainly to the rabid pc lefty "you cant do this" "you cant say that" brigade who would have a shit heamorrage over jack smoking a pipe let alone seeing anything being dispatched.
Re: Good memories
Also seem to remember that Jack Hargreaves was very keen on running parts of his programs from his shed and workshop
, just goes to shows that it makes very good sense to be the proud owner of a shed/workshop
Another classic program from that era was "Survival" with Collin Willock on Anglia TV
, he was seconded in to the Survival program some years after the program had started around !961/62 and stayed as the big kahuna of the program for some 30 years or so, he also wrote a weekly article in the Shooting Times under the pen name of Town Gun. Survival was definitely another very good style of wildlife documentary
Thanks all Phil.

Re: Good memories
Right then Frogman here we go then in basic English
which is a foreign language to me as well
Jack Hargreaves was a journalist, editor and commentator on TV countryside and wildlife programs back in the 1960s that covered a huge range of topics like "how to re-band a wooden cart wheel with a new steel tyre" (Amish style) , "charcoal burning to produce the charcoal to sell" (ideal for barbecues), "trout and grayling fishing" (including fishing chalk streams/rivers) , "long distance horse and pony cross country riding" (usually across common land/moorland etc.) , "making a wooden hay rake" (sort of Amish way of making your own farm hand tools) etc. etc. etc.
See the 1 to 9 list of CDs in my thread above and the topic of the countryside or wildlife pursuit/interest is named that is shown in each of the "Out of Town" CD etc. etc. The humour in the first line above Frogman is another comment that doesn't travel very well either unless you know that Wales is a different country to England
Save up your spare dollars and come over for a holiday sometime got plenty of spare room, not a problem. Thanks Phil.

Going to set a challenge
of £5.00 or in yank'ish lingo $7.50 if someone on the forum can explain the character and personality of Fred Dibnah to Frogman in less than 30 words for Frogman to understand what made Fred Dibnah tick etc.
Just realised it's Friday, going to buy some popcorn now before this thread goes south
Thanks Phil.
