Then what,, find the den and dig the cubs??? or just leave them to starve? if you dont get the job done during the winter, leave them be, come April when there's cubs on the ground we should show them some respect.[/quote]

They are vermin. They can also have 2 litters . Also rabbits breed all year round can you not shoot those either.

A bitch cant have a second litter if she's been grassed, still leaves cubs starving to death. Pest or not we have a duty to act humanely, where possible.
We have seasons for deer, wildfowl, released birds etc for good reason. Most people shoot for sport,, if your doing pest control as paid contracts thats entirely different.
As for rabbits, no i dont touch them during the summer. Once the does are full of milk thats the end for me, be it snaring, trapping, shooting or ferreting. It always amazes me the amount of airgun shooters that come out of the woodwork once the days get longer, shooting green or under conditioned rabbits then complain about the lack of numbers come winter. Again, paid contracts are different ;)

How about a non paid condition of your permission ? As in, if it's rabbit or fox then shoot it !

I guess paid or not paid the question is does the farmer invite you to his land to shoot for sport or vermin control?
I'm sure he isn't going to be happy to know your encouraging the population because of your ethics!

rabbits "CAN" have kits all year round.....that's your shooting buggered.
i've amended your post to be a little more accurate  if rabbits breed all year round like you "think" then no one would be able to put a ferret to ground at any time of year without spending all day on the shovel. rabbits still have a breeding season like it or not, some years you can make it to the end of January before you get young inside the doe's other years we've had young befroe xmas. BUT i do know when we start finding milky doe's we can move up to the hills and get another few weeks if not a month of graft before doe's are carrying.

How many people shoot young kits late November?????

there wasn't a single frost in Cornwall all year when we went down to sort a rabbit problem during xmas week, with it being so warm we thought we'd arrive a little late and spend the week digging through stone walls to nests. strangely enough the number of milky doe's probably just crept into double figures, which wasnt bad considering we'd killed just over 300 in 6 days.
