New to the NV Forum

Post by Nod-1 » 26 Jan 2015, 20:08

Hi all,

I have joined the forum to try and get some help and advise on purchasing my first NV setup.

I have been hunting/shooting & lamping with shotguns and centerfire rifles for years but the NV side of things seems to be a minefield of different choices and options to go with and would really appreciate some help and advise on choosing my first NV setup.

It will be going on a centerfire rifle for fox and would like to budget around £500-1000 I would like to keep my scope in position but I'm not totally adverse to removing it.

Can anybody help put me in the right direction?

Cheers Neil.

Welcome to the forum Neil. Unfortunately one of the best ways is to get with some one who has kit and have a play. It wil give you a better idea of what you prefer.
Me personally, I like tube but that isn't cheap.

Do you want to build your own or do you want to buy of the shelf?
New or will you buy second hand.
Add on or dedicated?
Fixed like a drone pro or add on?
You will also need an illuminator.

The questions go on and on.
Let's start with those.

Hi Gloop,

Thanks for the reply,

I have no idea of which route to take, all I would like to do is get the best value for my money and budget,if that means secondhand but better quality then so be it, what I would like to achieve is to be able to see foxes at 150 to 300 meters.

Cheers Neil.

Hi,

I've done some further research and think the right way for me to start with is a spotter so my question is which one do I go for, I would like to spend no more than £600 and have seen the pulsar recon 750 is this any good for spotting foxes with? Or can anybody recommend anything else on the market.

Cheers Neil.

Hi Neil

Have a look at the spotter/s made by the forum member 'some bloke' they are very tidy and well below your budget. There could well be others but those impressed me :)
