from northumberland I got the chance of cobra merlin so took it with out any real expectations it's been in storage for a year or so but now I have retired and have time on my hands I would like to make the best use of it .The situation is this, most of my permissions are remote areas and so I use lamps for 223 and 22lr and no one bat's an eye but I do have a permission closer to me that's sensitive when lamps are seen by joe public.So dipping my toe into NV I asked on other forums that have NV only as a topic about the merlin now all say illumination is the way to improve the unit but I get mixed views on the best/value illuminator to use I was offered the use of a 1000n laser to try out but as yet I have not herd anymore from the guy who offered .
Came on this forum to try and get a more informed group of folks to advise me.
1 do i continue with trying to get the merlin to go out to 70yrds and see if NV is the way to go
2 do I forget the idea of cheap merlin as an introduction to N.V.
any advice will be taken on board but not necessarily acted on

Old style dipol L3 or n1000 and your merlin will do 70yrds no problem

There is a chap on another forum who claims massive distances using a t20 with a merlin...a t20 may or may not work with you're particular unit...bit of a lottery with gen1

Must be a Massey Ferguson T-20 with it's headlights on.
