Newbie from Somerset

Post by grimrecruiter » 09 Nov 2014, 13:43

Hello

I am entering foxing and deer stalking relatively late in life at 58. Recently passed my DSC Level 1 and have some land to shoot over in Somerset. Will be getting into foxing / night vision next year and have joined forum to learn.

Tools: Mauser M03 .308 & Swazi Z6i / ticket for 22 250 (barrel or rifle) Christmas list for Night Vision - mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Welcome! We don't generally do grim here, just plenty of banter and mocking.

Let us know your rough budget and whether you want to dedicate the .22-250 as a night rifle. You will then receive a multitude of opinions, some of which may even be correct. : ;)
If you are lucky there will be someone local to you who can show you his kit.

Hello to both

I have bust my budget for Deer rifle / sight hence next year for 22 250.

A barrel for the M03 will cost £700 but then I am in to a Mauser OE sight mount.

The foxing will quite frankly be a bit of R & R with my friend who is the land owner.

So I am thinking a Howa / stainless mod and ATN X-Site / double as day sight for foxing.

Thoughts?

Welcome and nice to see someone else in the area. I do a lot of foxing with thermal and nv but only use tubed kit not digital. If you need some advice give me a shout

At the moment we can't give advice on the X sight, as only a couple of US based forum members have seen one and it wasn't the final configuration.

Thank you. It looks like the X-Site has stirred a lot of interest but supplies are obviously going to be spread very thinly. Will look out on here for a review when some lucky person gets their hands on one.
