Hi From Dorset .....

Post by FGYT » 30 Aug 2012, 10:54

Hi
found this forum after a look round a few of the Airgun ones

Im getting back into airgunning after a long break

I used to use and still have a NV site but its big n bulky and needs weaver mounts and etc etc

so after finding the camera and LCD screen ones that slip on a day scope and now that the yare fairly easy to build

now Ive found the ones that use an old Camcorder eye piece these look a little more tricky from am electrical point of view but much better as a Unit

Ive got an old Panasonic NV S20B camcorder so wondering if its a suitable donor unit but have little idea on the electronics to wire up
no problem with actual soldering or making housings etc but never got my head truly round electronics so became a mechanical Design engineer :geek:

also i usually use a 10-50 mag scope do these type units work ok on that mag (or at least the lower end)

ive put the question in the DIY section

Hello Duncan, and welcome to the forum.

Not 100% about the cam eyepiece, but thinking maybe it will be quite difficult to get the wiring sorted.

In regard to your scope, most people tend to find that something in the 3-12/4-16 range is more suitable. Gives you a wider field of view which assists in actually finding your quarry.

Cheers

Ive been using 10 -50 for very many years from FT & HFT to rabbiting and Fast ratting at 10 yrds with white light lamps
and yes it does take a while to get used to so Im not worried about that (Im a little out of practice but will sort that)

was hoping the NV units will work ok at 10 mag min as the higher the mag the smaller your exit pupil and the less light you get to work with or the point of not needing to change your day scope is lost ( Im not expecting to use it on 50x)

You may indeed find that it works okay for you, Duncan, and it will of course save you from sourcing a new scope.

It's a little bit of suck it and see as to whether the nv unit you end with will work with that particular scope and at that mag.

I will probably have a play with the LCD large screen first anyway as it seems cheap enough and fairly simple to plug together

Thanks
