Went out and had a late one last night. 17 bunnies and 1 muntie. However there seems to be a lot of Myxi on the ground this year. I presume the weather has been ideal for the fleas.
Getting the Muntie was funny as anything.

We parked up and had a walk round the fields. takes about 2 hours. Then decided to go for something to eat before it got dark. So my mate locked his 243 away securely in his car and of we went down the track towards the main road. Spied a muntie off to the left then had to reverse fast as anything 1/4 mile to get back to mates car (single track road) to get the 243 then back again fast to the muntie which luckily enough was still there.
Bit of a panic there, then as with all munties he wouldn't keep still and kept going behind a hedge. So start car, drive forward, stop, switch off engine, aim, muntie moved again.............. Had to do it 3 times. :) but got her in the end.

Safely in the fridge. Ready to be skinned tomorrow.

Oh and quad sticks are the mutts nuts. Off to Band Q to make a pair for my mate cos he was so impressed with them. 100 yard headshots no bother.

So far my farmer has harvested about 300 acres of OSR, which up to now hasn't produced a single rabbit and about 100 acres of wheat which at first glance seems to be about as good as far as rabbits are concerned.
My only saving grace is that non of the "hotspots" have yet been started so I'm fingers crossed and hoping for a bit more fun on those.

Supposed to go out last night, but every field had a working combine in it and I'm guessing they're still there in the early hours.

There's always tonight.

Thats where you are supposed to ride on the combine, get covered in crap so you can shoot everything that runs out of the way. but of course your gun has jammed because of all the dust and you can't see anyway.

At long last, tonight I got amongst the rabbits.
I,ve been getting right depressed about it over the last week or two, 3 hours for one bloody rabbit each night I ventured out, not my idea of how it should be, but tonight I had about twenty in an hour and a half so the fog of rabbit famine has lifted at long last, onward and upward.

I've been out for a go with the N750 tonight - saw 1 fox through it - squeaked it in to about 80yds - it's now sleeping ;)

Watched another at about 200 yds could see it really clearly - knew I should have put the N750 on the Kimber !!!!

Frustratingly I can only get out Fridays generally due to distance of ground blah blah, working hours, etc etc and so can't do much during the week. So I tend to pray that Fridays are good.

So anyway out again last Friday (did I already tell this story?) I was out and did a 2 loops and picked up about 13 bunnies. Not as many as I expected as it had been a lovely day. I thought we would have had a lot more out enjoying the sunshine. But obviously not and once the sun went down they stayed in. Maybe should have round till 4am but was getting tired......... anyhow I digress.

So went and sat up the high seat, watching a badger for about 40 minutes and round 1am spotted a fox about 150 yds. I chambered a round very quietly, the fox froze stared in my direction and ran for it. Wily bugger. :D

To be honest George, the fields that needed attention only got started tonight, another 5 or so similar fields to go over the next week or two, some of it is high land so will be a bit later.
I was really getting down about the lack of rabbits, but it would seem my concerns were premature, the trouble with some of the fields around here is they're so bloody big, therefore lacking hedgerows for the rabbits.
