My hard drive just gave out a two tone bee-beep.
It's busy light has become very busy - and I keep hearing it spool up and down.
I've asked my PC clever brother to sign with team viewer to have a looksee.

I suspect that it's time to try and back up everything important to a memory stick, external drive etc as it doesn't sound promising. Might be best to switch the pc off for a while and let the drive cool down. Don't write anything more onto that disc until you've sorted it. Good luck.

Search the net for 2 beep sound, troubleshooting PC.
Different sounds for different problems.
Open the case and a sure all cables are well seated.
I have had a laptop that refused to boot XP, bad drive but starting a copy of Linux from a DVD I could access the same hard disc and scanned for fault. I had the opportunity to backup the data.
When things do not work under windows, Linux can help troubleshoot.

Whew.
He had to nip over for a good few hours. The MMC or something wouldn't allow access to device manager, nor system restore and a few other tings. As it happens we had done a system back up on another drive recently and bobs yer uncle with a spare used hard drive with the operating system already loaded on it for emergencies.
lost all my bookmarks agaain though 'cos firefox does a good job of hiding them apparently.
Hard drives seem to last me about a year or so, so we're going to try and change my luck with a solid state one now.
