Hi

Hi Folks
Just stumbled on this forum recently and have read with interest. I have a statement/question for you people of the UK. I understood it was almost impossible to own firearms over there, but it seems you have lots of "stuff", am I wrong in my understanding?
As an aside I am a licensed gunsmith here in Australia and a professional shooter (proshooter :) ) and specialize in thermal gear, not much benefit to you on the other side of the world though. Don't write much just read.
Regards to all Alan
PS I am old :(

Hi old Pro.

We have a few other members who are upside down to us on here. I once tried to explain to a teenage taxi passenger why planes don't fall out of the sky over there. I don't think my gravity explanation was very good or convincing. :D

Rifles - rather than shotguns: Will only be granted if the applicant has a provable and thoroughly investigated GOOD REASON for using them + a few other red lines about their character - and with two personal suitability to own references. We then have conditions to satisfy with regard to each firearm before it's granted - and a sound moderator has to be applied for, for each firearm. In addition, expanding head bullets are also subject to criteria and sometimes quarry too.

There is more rigmarole - but the above sort of spells out the minimum requirements to get to own and use 'section one' firearms.
Air rifles are unlicensed if below 12 ftlbs at the muzzle. Stray above that power level, even accidentally or subject to the testing house using different pellets than the user then it needs an FAC - or face up to five years in clink.

Hello Alan.

Welcome to the forum. Don't be bothered about your age. If we were ageist on here, we'd have a tiny membership :) . Lots of us 'mature' shooters, so you're not alone.

welcome aboard

its not actually that hard to own rifles over here....its just that you have to jump through some hoops to get them

forget handguns though, they were banned about 20 years ago. i could tell you about long barreled pistol's, but they are just embarrassing
