Hi All from new member.

Hi Everyone, just found this site today and am very interested in sharing knowledge, also need some advice. This seems to be a really good forum. Has it been running for long?

I am from Belfast, fairly recent to shooting but always into electronics, so NV was always gonna have to happen.
I have no previous knowledge of IR or NV. So a real Newb, but have a bit of general knowledge lol.
I have disected a few cameras and wrecked them lol, but recently removd the IR filter from a webcam and enjoyed playing about with IR snapshots. Used X2 negatives to block out normal light, all that youtube shit.

As a shooter I have always watched out for torches/illuminators and actually bought a few, in pics below. I dont think I did too bad for a newb after quick read through the forum. I know one is IR and the other is only RED but maybe customisable?

I wanted to build a NV kit but was always aware of the light a screen gives off. I shoot air rifles and rimfire (17hmr), so I bought a pair of Vuzix video glasses as a video output. I am impressed with them.

I had been reading up on NV and ordered up a couple of car rearview ir cams off ebay to experiment. A lot of sites recommend these for NV but I discovered that reversing cams invert the image left to right to make it look like a rear view mirror.

So I built the following unit from Alum box with a security cam to hook up and test the video glasses;

It worked out really well. I added a strong IR laser as per pics, and good comparison with the ultrafire ir, but longer range for scope.

Recent purchase from Maplin was a smaller diameter cam which I hope to attach to the scope of my rifle. I intend making a bush/adapter that will fit and adjust to any scope so it fits any of my scopes. Cam has better resolution and glasses are capable.

I would like to buy a small screen for mounting on scope with an AV in&out and can record so I can watch and record and another person can watch. There are portable pvrs out there for sale but would be gratefull if anyone has any knowledge of these screens. Especially one could be mounted on scope?

Thanks, and sorry for long winded intro.

Hi Silvershot, you got grey too eh?

I think I'd chuck up PDQ if I tried those Vuzix video glasses.

The torches are indeed customisable with drop-ins and lenses to improve them.

I don't know how well the glasses see low light. Being a compact torch the light output will also be fairly compact with centrefire being out of bounds.

Hello Silvershot.

Looking at your builds, I don't see that you'd have any problem doing a unit or two that's outlined on the forum.
