This pump was in my possession for maybe 15yrs, been taken good care, I extended the mag tube so that it will hold 7rds and powder coated the outside.

I haven't use it for a long time now, so I'm planning to let it go if there's a taker.

But if I can raise the fund to finance this build, I will not sell it.

More to the point, take on the following.
Lasers give a grainy or granulated light, LEDs give a clean, smooth light. Case in point, Marky610s latest video demonstrating the Yukon Photon. the first part of the video was shot with the on-board IR laser, the second with a cheap torch with a good IR LED fitted. The first part looks like it was shot through wire mesh, the second is very clean. Vid is in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=3587
Take that cheap IR torch, add a good head/lens/LED and it will also compete with a laser for range. The newer Marky Light designs by Marky 610 will flood a field out to 400 meters or more, the bigger ones will go a lot further. A few hours going through his Youtube channel will 'enlighten' you.
So at the moment LEDs rule for quality of image.

The next thing to consider is safety. IR lasers are invisible to the naked eye, there is no blink reflex involved, so there is the chance of causing blindness if shone in someones eye or the eyes of livestock is an issue. There is a thread on laser safety in the illuminator forum. Read it before purchasing.

Next is the wavelength. The longer the wavelength (higher number) the less visible the light is to game. 850nm is still noticeable by some critters, 940 is not. For less than 100m I would go the 940. If you need to spot your backstop to make sure there are no people or livestock, then an 850 will give longer viewing distance.

My take? Just get the Pulsar LED 940 torch and go shooting. After you have played for a while you can consider upgrading. Some Bloke and Sikastag both sell parts and complete units for custom torches, Sikastag is effectively the licensed manufacturer of the Marky Light designs.

I bow to the sunndogs illumination. *genuflects* On the other hand, isn't the Rangerlight a T20 with a Yukon head and lens? That's sort of what I had in mind.

rangerlight was marks original build using a ranger lens and a custom lamp body and seperate power supply

sunnranger was me copy'ing him by whacking a ranger lens on a t20 torch

the vid you linked to above was a standard i.r converted t20....remember the photon is a dedicated and needs far less light than an addon.
a standard t20 is good for 150yrds or so on a watec addon

Shall have to go back and read those threads.
As for the value of the Pulsar 940, per Rolaids' vids it seems adequate for the job with the EJ230, as OP wants to shoot to 100 meters. I don't doubt that the various designs of our resident geniuses/bodgers far surpass it.

did roland do a vid of the 940/ ej230 behind a scope?.....i'v only seen vids with them either stand alone cam or on his scopeless set up
and was he using that nasty sens up whatsit

but tbh. i would not be happy with a pulsar 940 as my i.r source for a digi addon fitted to a rimmy, just not enough light IMHO
i like to see beyond the target a ways for safety

I've been searching ebay for the 12" long picatinny rail and the 90° weaver rail as seen on rolaids video but can't find it.

My next buy is the ej230nuwx. When I looked at the pic, its small but why $42 for shipping?

Maybe you have a link? Buying in US site is a waste of time! They won't ship outside of the country.
