I spoke to the vendor yesterday afternoon and bought this - seems the cutter tip is the same height as the shank top so will need to shim it up a 2mm to get the 14mm cutter height. It's being delivered between 11.23 and 12.23, very speedy free delivery if ordered before 2pm I think it was. The 'blade has been cut in half apparently which better suits a four way tool post with four cutting tools in it.
I use one quick change 4 way tool post for the spacers and another one for the copper modules.

What is the swing of your lathe?
If its a mini lathe variant 7" swing, looks like 1/2" tall cut off tool is the right size.
I use these t type cutters, only larger. a Lot of good info here if you have a chopstick "mini" lathe

As it happens I'd also ordered another type for back up, the 16mm one at the bottom of the page with a view to getting 2mm skimmed off the bottom of the shank. I did and it works well apart from losing 3.5mm per part off. http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/Braz ... Tools.html
Strange though, it starts screechy, then settles down about a third of the way into the cut.

That's a good size hobby lathe then, my little smithy clone lathe/mill looks a little different, but the same size.
The screechy is probably too fast, but you may not be able to do much about that if your already in low gear. Oil on a brush will help a lot.

It sounds like you're running it too fast, as you get into the cut the actual cutting speed is reduced and you get a better cut. I've got the same lathe (with mill attachment) and parting off works better at lower speed which is awkward for you as copper seems to cut better at high speed.

Cheers lads, I'm running it at the lowest speed it will do to minimise how often the house circuit breaker thingy trips out the ring main.
I only happens now once in maybe 100 or so starts. I make a point of not having the computer or anything with a clock running off the ring main and just have to turn the water heater back on when it happens.
