Hello mate and welcome along.

It's a big learning curve. Can be as steep or as shallow as you want to make it. Lots of reading up on here for you though ;)

welcome Tedward,

Hi there, I threw up on the Torpoint ferry a few times whilst basic training at HMS Raleigh. Is that whorehouse still near the gates?

Anyway, walk this way................ if you can limp.

Thank you one and all, - and like you say, an awful lot of catching up to do !
(ps "some bloke," are you sure you have the right new entry establishment? - perhaps I'd better rephrase that! - Which era where you at Raleigh?)
cheers, Tedward.

3 Sept 1967.

Apparently I was the youngest rating there for several years being something to with a combination of my birthdate falling so close to a certain unkown to me threshold, and the date I left school. I was far too immature for her Majesties duties and was very much a practical joker and a bit of a rebel against authority too. I'm surprised it took them three years to chuck me out, in hindsight it was well deserved too. Long story mostly involving a captains daughter and me being twitterpated...

Hi sb,
your time in the andrew predates me, (March '74 - Ganges) but I was one of the older ones in my intake,
so we may well be of a similar vintage - happy days!

Ah - I see where you are coming from now... IIRC Raleigh only basic trained seamen and marine engineers at that time? I'm guessing you were in a different branch.
