Everybody has a person who made the biggest impression on them, when they began shooting.
Mine is my old Dad.
He taught me how to get within yards of bunnies, when I was barely big enough to hold a BSA Meteor. His field craft is second to none and he can hit bunnies from 40 yards off hand, with freaky regularity.
He taught me patience and respect for quarry, "if you can't eat it, make sure you dispose of it properly son"
There have been a couple of significant others but, they really only polished what Dad taught me.
He's my Shooting God

Who is your shooting God and ... Why
Who is your shooting God and ... Why
...is this a pistol in my hand, or am I just pleased to see you ?
Re: Who is your shooting God and ... Why
that brings back some memories H, my step dad got me started when i was about 6 years old.
he could catch Young rabbits with his hands and would put them in my pockets to keep my hands warm.
when we had finished shooting for the day they would be released with him saying, there's more for another day.
he bought a bsa supersport 5 new back in the sixty's and i used this for years when i was growing up. he gave up shooting last year and asked if i wanted it, the paper work went in and the rifle is now in my cabinet.
some great memories

Yeah great memories mate, great.
I remember once he climbed an oak and stuck his hand straight into a drey
the squirrel ran up his arm, across his face and down the tree into the root ball which was sitting on top of a big boulder of sandstone. This sandstone boulder was above only what I can describe as a hollow, a drop of about 15 feet ran under it. Anyway, we had our polecat ferrets with us and netted it up.
It was a really cold morning and the noise and steam that came out of there was eerie. He is a nutter, a good old fashioned one
I have tried to get the old man his first deer for a while now, as a sort of repayment in a way. No luck yet. I'm sure there's a little buck out there with his name on it though. He's been out 4 times to date and only seen the butt of one Munty in the distance, he'll get one in the end.

Re: Who is your shooting God and ... Why
I'm sure he will, still, at least you're still getting out together, and that's half the fun.
He will probably end up with a gold medal munty
