Bob its roughly 10500 gallons and goes from around 7ft to around to 4ft .6 in depth,I'm not into plants as they only ever seem to cause problems with health etc,my sturgen are roughly the same size as yours and are constantly looking for food.
My son dug the pond out with his mini digger on the last alteration and added a large waterfall that cascades down and is great for airation, when I first started i ran a Reed filtration bed that worked really well keeping the water crystal clear but had to change to more conventional filtration as the reed bed was just taking up to much room.
Yes agree with you on the money side its definatley not a cheap hobby the same as shooting buy once buy good,I never tire of sitting by my pond just chilling out while I feed them.
Adam yes mate had sturgen in there for about 20yrs or so and they grow so fast its unbelievable,I lost a massive sturgen about 2yrs ago he jumped clean out of the pond one night and I was gutted to say the least, apart from that I've been very lucky and still have many of my original fish.

Sounds great Geoff, I know what you mean by chilling out by the pond, grab the pellets and a beer and all's well with the world
Unfortunately the worst time of year is coming up for us koi keepers, hate seeing them miserable with the cold of winter, but allways look forward to spring.

Yes it all changes in winter as you say but I personally think koi look more colourful and there colours seem crisp and perphaps a bit brighter, the sturgen just carry on as if still warm and seem just as lively.Bob57 wrote: ↑16 Oct 2019, 20:30Sounds great Geoff, I know what you mean by chilling out by the pond, grab the pellets and a beer and all's well with the world![]()

Do you feed your koi in the winter months I do but obviously a much lighter diet, the sturgen soon take care of any food that might be left over by the koi.i use the decent days in summer to sort any maintenance around the pond so still go down to it every day
Renewing the astro turf down there this year so plenty to get done with the help of my son who is a good lad and helps me with any heavy work, getting on a bit for to much heavy graft and watching him is enough to wear me out sometimes

Yes you're right Geoff about the koi looking more vibrant in winter, but I think part of that is the water being clearer in the cold months, I still feed My koi a bit if they'll take it in winter and yeah the sterlets just keep on eating no matter how cold, no wonder they grow so fast
I've been using a new koi food recently, JPD shogun all season food for the last month and am well impressed with how little waste there seems to be, so should be good for the winter!!
