Flirting with nightvision

Hello to all, Just signed up to learn, as I don't know enough to be of any help at the moment.
I have been considering buying dedicated day/nightvision for air rifle use, primarily on rats.
The only experience of NV I have are with the military issue Starlight scope back in the eighties and more recently the quite awful Hawke NV1000 monocular (an impulse purchase ). The Hawke put me off somewhat for several reasons, not least the eye strain, something I put down to the display being monochrome, and what I considered to be poor image quality. A green filter may offset the former, but I'm hoping the newer digital tech has improved the latter.
What image quality can I expect from the current offerings at x10 mag?
The units that interest me are the ATN 4k 3-14 and the PARD nv008.
What is the general concensus regarding these choices?

I'm a big fan of the PARD NV008 ( I have 2 of them) but for rats, I think it's x6.5 base magnification is too much.
Also, if eye strain is a problem, then the PARD doesn't have any colour filter on the monochrome NV display
The ATN might be a better bet for your specific application, lower base mag and colour filters on the monochrome NV display.
ATN have poor reputation for reliability and service, so you pays your money and takes your chance.
However, under the distance selling regulations you can buy either or both (from reputable UK based sellers) to try them out and return either or both undamaged and in the original packaging within 14 days and get a full refund (less postage)

Thanks Bruce.
A couple of local RFDs' have the ATN range but not the PARD, so I may have to go down this route.
My eyesight isn't that great, so x10 is my default daytime mag from 25-55yds at the range, anything under is comfortable at x5-7.
The PARD appears very compact and light which appeals, as it's going on a Leshiy which does have mounting limitations for the longer larger objective scopes such as the ATN.

Hi chris, welcome to the forum.

You are not the only one who has issues with the radiation from 'near eye' viewers. I struggle with eyeburn to differing amounts, some make me vomit, most just sting like mad and ruin my natural night eyes for several minutes.

I'm pessimistic enough to feel that where there's smoke there's fire - likewise the sting cannot be a long term healthy thing as far as I'm concerened.

If there were no monitor type rigs available I would have to stop using night vision.

The Edgun Leshiy is a single loader pcp made in Russia by a really nice bloke called Ed.
They are a cracking little gun(and I mean Little), a perfect close range and distance hunting rifle that's consistent and accurate.
I don't have any pictures of my own, but here is a link to a rather lengthy piece with a load of good images.
I'm sure PiterM won't mind me linking it, he's a sterling chap aswell.......It was his article that prompted me to try one, I'm glad I did as It's pretty much all I've shot in the last seven months, and I have a few good rifles to choose from.

Not cheap at 1250 sovs, but they are very well engineered, built like a T34, calibre change capable in less than five minutes should you so wish and can be serviced and repaired at home without the need for special tools, ten quids worth of seals and a chronograph.
Definitely a marmite gun. I love marmite and something a little bit different.
