Hi All,
Slightly off topic but we seem to have some good techie people around that may be able to help.
I've been playing around with Bluetooth speakers to play 'prey'/fox sounds but have found Bluetooth's range is very limited (typically 45ft). Some speakers say they can do more...but soon get returned.
I then caught sight of something called an Aether Cone (£30) which isn't waterproof (that's what bags are for) but does have Bluetooth and Airplay which is 'wifi'. Wifi range is what's needed i.e. 100m.
The issue is: The Cone becomes a Wifi Hotspot and I had thought this was the solution as my ipone could connect and hey presto...but...the hotspot is only so you can connect to it and then make it connect to a wifi network. Then it works fine however, not many wifi networks in the middle of a field.
So does anyone know if 'Mifi' devices will work without having a 3G card and become a wifi 'router/hotspot'' which both the iphone and Cone can connect? There seems to be a few mifi's on fleebay and thought it may work but would ask first.
Any help...pointers would be great.
(btw: these speakers are very good...they were £300 but are now down at the £30-35 new.)

Bluetooth/Airplay Speaker
Re: Bluetooth/Airplay Speaker
Brief update for any interested in being able to place a remotely controllable speaker in the middle of a field to attract Mr. Fox.
I ended up buying the cone mentioned above and a £20 MIFI(without using the 3/4g sim). Tested tonight out to a range of 80yds without any issues and that's with the phone and mifi next to each other. You should be able to extend the range even further if you also place the mifi halfway between the phone and the speaker I.e. At least 160yds. Plenty far enough.
