WARNING about weapon mountable range finders !!!

Post by CustomRifleScopesUK » 02 Sep 2016, 22:27

Hello

This is in two parts, one is that i have noticed a new type weapon mountable rangefinder on ali baba and other selling websites that have clearly stated that they are shock proofed up to 7.62 ( 308 ) caliber, this is clearly not true as its cut and pasted from my web site.......do not buy one to put on your .308 as it will break within a few months. The ones on my website take a week to convert to resist the recoil of a .308, i don't mind people copying me but not to the detriment of the customer !

2nd part is i have also noticed that a new type has started to creep into the market with 3 holes drilled into the side, if you want to buy from ali baba or elsewhere then do so but if you buy the ones with all the holes in, then in winter when it gets cold the unit will fail at 2 to 4 deg instead of the 0 deg it should work to. I have started chatting to the manufacturer to stop the new version as in the past i have sent some back for the same problem.

Most Lasers have cold weather problems unless you buy the subzero type, these rangefinder lasers will only work down to 0 if your lucky and the more holes i found the worse it got ( found this out myself the hard way ) its also a time thing, with more holes toy get less play time too. I tested this in my lab ( the freezer LOL )

This is even the case with screws left in, the cold finds its way through the thread faster ( just like a flask lid )

If the manufacturer does not listen to me then i will come up with a new solution to the 0 Deg problem and the extra holes

Happy hunting !

 Morning Splatty  it's a bit quiet here in west Wales this morning, so I am working on your quandary ?
I don't know what to say about the excessive recoil of large centre fires like .308 etc unless you can bandage the range finder up in some spongy foamy padding or some cotton wool  or even better still take the range finder off the rifle and shove it in your pocket before you take the shot :wtf: but the holes in the plastic body of the range finder should be a easier problem to rectify  and could be solved in conjunction with the excessive recoil issues
You could even solve both problems by adapting a singular method of "only put the range finder on the rifle when you are in need of finding out a distance" and when not needed on the rifle for distance purposes keep the range finder in your pants so the ambient heat from your testicles keep the range finder from freezing during inclement or adverse weather  You should also be bombarding your far east suppliers with several emails every hour on a four hour rotation with your new specifications with amended drawings and also explain to them that this is a very serious defect because the UK is floating around in the middle of the north Atlantic and it is bloody cold and wet here for 51 weeks of every year
Sorry in advance for my lack of sensitivity on such important problems that you are having with our Asian friends but I am sure that you will be able to resolve all of the far east range finder design issues  .
Very quite here, it's cold, wet, dark not range finding weather at all

Phil

This will also have the added benefit of stopping your mate wanting to use it, and if he still does just tell him to put his hand in and grab it

However, if he finds this at all agreeable then you need to either get new mates or at the very least pull your belt tighter

 Splatty are your present concerns only about the "excess recoil" possibilities and the "ventilation holes" in the plastic body of your latest Rangefinder ? and also would this the same model Rangefinder that underwent your in depth review back in February 2015 >>>
Re. "Night Vision Rangefinder is finally in my hands" 28th February 2015.
Thanks Phil

Thanks Phil

I thought the "weapon mountable" word gave it away.......ok here is a link so everyone knows the one im talking about

http://www.customriflescopes.com/#!/Wea ... y=15737046

And this is the same unit, a chinese seller selling with the extra holes.......the unit is ok, but if you want it working lower than 4 Deg C
then i would look for ones without the extra drilled holes

 Splatty fastest answer to the "holey ventilation" design would be to wrap the newer model Rangefinder in "cling-film" with one of those small hand warmers cable tied onto the Rangefinder as well for good measure to keep cold weather at bay etc.
I have a feeling in my water that I had better go back and review the posts on this same related subject back in 2015, Re. Teething Problems in Night Vision Rangefinding and the quality control issues with our Asian brethren
Me also thinks  that a big wobbly spring like "Zebedee" uses instead of legs is going to solve any possible recoil issues once and for all  "The Rangefinder will be able to jiggle about under recoil conditions and then return to stability after recoil has ceased  "Job done and sorted and your good to go  "
I will do a bit more brain storming after supper just in case I have missed out on any other ideas ?
Thanks for now Phil
