Always have been a bit of a star gazer, so now, with time on my hands, decided to build a scope with one of these 'ere ex-army tank tubes - P8079HP.
What I need to find out might already be on here somewhere, so hoping some kind soul will patiently point me in the right direction.
I need to know which lens to use. Knowing nothing about photography is the real problem I have, Do I need wide angle or zoom for starters. 35mm F2(ish) is all I can gather from the clips seen. There may even be a section on here for buying used lenses, I really don't know, hence the request for a little help.
Newby here, maybe, but with an engineering background and well equipped workshop, am busy sorting out the rest of the project, and am quite willing to share knowledge. F'rinstance (and to show my willingness), on the P8079HP tube, every clip I've seen shows them saying to solder the neg wire to the brass ring around the input lens; almost an impossibility. After having a good look, I found there is a groove all around the brass part, a surclip fixing, maybe. By passing an insulated bit of binding wire around the groove and twisting it until tight, it then becomes a doddle to trap the neg wire to the brass ring.
Anyway, it's the lens I need info on, so if anyone can help, please do.
