Sky bushes in the night.

Post by chas » 04 Jul 2015, 10:28

Right, I finally got moved house after 2 years of trying, 4 failed deals, one estate agent taken to the ombudsman and 4k wasted along the way.
So, time for some chores.
After getting the house into something like order I decided to tackle the garden which has been neglected for quite some time, various shrubs had taken over and needed a bit of thinning out so the boss pointed out her first victim.
After spending ten minute with a spade trying to dig out this bloody great thing about 4ft diameter and 6 ft high it became obvious that plan 2 must come into effect, this bush thing is at the back of a 8ft wide raised border.
Now me believing that machinery is the answer to everything decided to pull it out with my old faithful shooting truck, so it was time to christen my new length of rather colourful and very flexible rope. I backed the truck up as far as I could get without running over the lawn as it is in a reasonable condition, the tied one end of the rope around the base of this shrub aand the other to my truck, jobs a "good un" or so I thought.
I let the truck ease forward steadily to take up the slack, but I just kept going, waiting for some resistance.
The rope was tight, the bush wasn't budging, so I went on some more, unfortunately In I hadn't realised that this rope was in fact a 40 ft length of disguised catapult elastic
Onward with the truck, a few funny straining noise coming from behind me, then as I looked into my mirror the bush suddenly disappeared from view whilst being accompanied by a loud twanging noise, then it landed, as did the clothes line and the hook out of the wall.
This thing had cleared the 8ft border, cleared the little drystone wall, cleared 15 ft of lawn, demolished the clothes line and landed smack in the middle of said lawn complete with roof ball and muck the size of a bathtub.
It's maximum altitude is unknown at this moment in time and liable to remain so, but what a bloody mess, as it landed the rootball exploded covering two thirds of the lawn in muck and stones.
Today I will try to clear up the mess and get a new clothes line, some people live and learn, others just live, guess which category I put myself in.
Oh well !!!!

Good one Chris! I'm taking a break from shearing and that relieved the back pain some what. The problem now is I've got sore ribs from laughing so much.

Glad to hear you've finally made the move and things are 'almost' working out for you

Keep the posts coming, when I read the thread about humour the other day I was wondering where you'd been with the funny links. That write up was even better than those though

 Chas, for your future benefit polypropylene rope has app 18 / 20% stretch, and a 24mm rope has a UTS of app 7.5t. Nylon has app 25 / 30% stretch and a UTS of not much more.
If you give a poly rope some stick there's an awful lot of stored energy in it when the load finally moves ....... but you already found that out

We only ever used poly for recovery, stretchy enough, relatively cheap and not affected so much by sunlight. Got a nice 100' 24mm rope here if you fancy putting a bush into orbit
