I understand your dilemma re: trying to find something that can be used on a variety of rifles. The new Pulsar thermal front add-on/spotter (Core FHD50) might be your answer? Failing that, I think you will struggle to find the perfect set-up and just have to compromise and have a dedicated NV set-up...

I was also told that the pulsar has a manual calibration setting but the guide is only automatic and can shut down just at the wrong moment.

at a recent night vision event I was able to test the guide 518ec alongside the pulsar hd 38s and there was very little difference
the big difference was the price that's why I am ordering the pulsar
