Another scopeless build using SLR lenses

Post by terry1001 » 14 Jun 2013, 19:55

When I finished the scopeless build for Cypri I realised that I hadn't done anything with the kit I had collected to build one based around screw thread SLR camera lenses. Most of the delay was due to not being able to decide on how to put it all together and mount it to the rifle. Anyway I had a bit of an idea and decided to finish the design as I went along. So far I haven't tried it on a rifle but it appears that the zero will alter slightly as the focus is adjusted but this is not required if the lens is stopped down slightly. Photos and brief descriptions are here http://www.flickr.com/photos/96928706@N ... 129496650/.
Shooting tests will be done soon, hopefully they will be successful.

Sorry, I forgot that rather important item! The camera is a generic Sony 1/3" sensor with the OSD including privacy masking. It is specified as 700 TVL resolution and does look quite good on a full size, HD monitor. I can't remember where I got it (from ebay) and I did remove the front ir filter element from it by easing a scalpel blade between the 2 pieces of glass which separated them very easily.

Very nice - what would the 125mm lens on a 1/3" CCD relate to in scope mag?

lathe milling attachment work ok then, was that some kind of fly cutter?

I will check on the magnification equivalent when I get a chance, I'm thinking probably about 12-15x or so. Yes it is a fly cutter as I don't (yet) have a boring bar and it was about 26.5mm radius. I adjusted it roughly to size using calipers and checked by scribing a circle with the point, just 1 minor tweak and it was there although I don't think it would be possible to get it accurate enough for a fit in a hole. Unfortunately I had to use the drill chuck as I don't have a collet to fit the shank and the cutter is not simple to get to run true in my 3 jaw chuck to turn the shank down, that will be a job for when I can find some patience!
