5" monitor/battery boxes for add-on rigs.

Post by some bloke » 23 Feb 2015, 10:33

I have recently modified my 5" HD monitor/battery spotter pods to be suitable for add-on rig builders.

They previously had a uniform substantial mold release draft built into them. They now have 90 degree flat sections moulded in the top and bottom to allow Illuminators and mounts to face in line with the scope. Like any custom made item for a small niche market they are not cheap but they certainly allow the add-on builder to avoid using butt mounted battery packs. That is of course a personal preference to customise or tart up a build. They will easily conceal a 6800MAH battery pack - or 3 x 18650 pack. The adaptors and mini rail shown are all available from Ant supplies.
Price is £24 + RMSD. This is how you open them - if the builder chooses he can permanently seal them up with black silicone sealant: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNOhhMY1UsE.

I've now found a better and cheaper weaver rail for the top of the pod that has a flat base so will not cause the box to bend as the screws are tightend up. They are just under £7 posted:

I've ordered a few for my own various builds and like any businessman will add a bit of profit if you'd rather just add it to the price of a box @ £10.

As you can combine the the postage on these you might just as well order them yourself:
This is a better mounting method because it has an upper flat surface- you will need to drill the fixing hole through it:

And this is the scope mount weaver rail torch adaptor - choose the right one for you scope tube diameter:
