Which ward 800L or 800s

Post by wambamboo » 08 Feb 2018, 18:11

Hi boys,

New to the forum and nv looking to get some info on what to buy.I found the site through the Hunting Life

I will be using the kit on a 22lr and a .223 max rang 150/200 yards. for fox and rabbit

I was looking at a 800s and a Black Sunnranger Ruby. I would also need to get the scope mount for the IR and batteries.Would that do to start me off.As said above completely new to NV.But had many years on the lamp.
Also would the extra rang on the 800L which would be great for spotting. be detrimental for lower ranges over the 800s.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in advance Wam

Hi Wam,

Which one you choose really depends on your day scopes and what minimum magnification you are happy with.

The 800S provides a 1:1 translation of what you see through your day scope, i.e. a round image of the whole.

The 800L has a little built in magnification, about 1.33x so you see a cropped square slightly zoomed in image of your day scope.

With the 800L you can use less magnification on your day scope for the same total magnification. This lets more IR get to the NV unit and increases range due to efficiency.

The 800L is also great if you have a day scope that has a fine reticule, like the S-Tac 2.5-17.5x56

Let me know what day scopes you have and on which rifles and I can suggest what would be best for you.
