Not in the same league as a Dragonfly, not even close.

Cleaner beam, less likely to fry your eyes, yes but less viewing distance.
Thanks for the comparison Anthony.

What sort of distances are you getting with the 50mm Ruby compared to the Dragonfly?

Cheers

I have a dragonfly and a pbir sunranger with the xlr pill and a sunranger with the black sun 2 pill in and with the drone pro I find the xlr works best don't feel the power of the dragonfly makes any difference with it. However with my mates LL700 add on the dragonfly is the best at the min. I'm not over happy about shining these lasers about that's why I woundered about trying the ruby pill in my sunranger.

If you tighten the beam right up on the Dragonfly you can see for a really long way with a Drone Pro, way over 500 yards but I would say the usable distance of a 50mm Ruby would be in the region of 400-500 yards which is, as I said before is about the same as my T67 BS2.

All this is IMO and everybody has their own ideas and results will vary a lot according to conditions

If a black sun ruby can see in the range of 400-500m at pushing on 28x mag with a tubed add on I want one, I'll order one but I have a serious amount of torches laid here that were meant to be great, and I've been disappointed with them, the drone pro works great with pretty much all torches so people comparing them it's not super apparent sometimes...

I find the best method for me is to mag my scope up to max either 16x or 24x depending on the model i'm using with Clives Ward 700 NV add on, then compare torches, the dragonfly has always been the clear winner by a country mile...I use a solaris at full mag under 180yds on my HMR/.22 Hornet and thats really compact and punches well with a night image...

So I'm hoping a Ruby can bring something new...if its just going to make the beam more visible while not pushing as far as a dragonfly, maybe not..
