Wdv 800 and hawke varmint

Post by muntjackdjb » 14 Nov 2017, 21:02

Hi all I'm thinking of getting a wdv 800 to use on my hawke varmint.
Has anyone used these together? If so what are the results.
Regards Dan

I quite fancy the VANTAGE SF 4-16×44 ½ MIL DOT for a .17HMR, so would be interested if anyone has tried one. Hawke have at least the parallax down to 10 or 15m which is really required for the close stuff.

I know the Sidewinder works, but thats too much scope for the rifle I have. With manufacturers changing coatings its always good to get other people's opinions.
If you have something that works well, then spread the word please.
Thanks in advance.

Not the exact answer to the questions but the Varmint works well with digital NV - except the half mildots seem a bit fussy to focus sharply.

The Sightron S-TAC 4-20x50 improved on it and the 4a retical was also an improvement.

I'm using a wdv 800 with a hawke vantage 3-12x44 sf half mil for rabbit shooting on a .22. I'm also using the Ward on a bushnell legend ultra hd 4.5-14x44 on a .223 for foxing.

The bushnell and ward perform brilliantly together. The hawkes performance is noticeably not as good. Adequate for rabbit shooting but I wouldn't want to use the hawke/ward combo on the .223.

I have only used the ward on these two scopes so can't comment further.

I nearly bought the Bushnell Ultra the other day as one had come up second hand, but missed out. Thank you for the heads up it works; I'll look out for another.

What sort of range are you getting through the vantage and what ir are you using?
I’m considering the vantage 6-24 but heard mixed opinions
Thanks
