something to do today!

Post by poppy mae » 01 Jan 2016, 19:39

Image Spent a couple of hours today, knocking this up for the elder bro, usual E700 camera, mounted in a floplast housing, using a spare end off a pulsar dsa to clamp, small project box housing av/dc connections, screwed onto the flat piece on the dsa, works well. The screen is mounted in one of Someblokes boxes,( impressed Dave well made ! ),the i.r is a 78mm aspheric mated to a chopped t20,fully focusable,no play. This runs on an AS olson, 1.5a driver and ferrite filter. Whole lot runs on a stock mounted 12v battery ( what he has ).Tested this evening outback, picture clear as a bell, with i.r tightend up can get a good picture on 20x 2-300yds not a problem, with it defocused about the same as a 50mm aspheric. Only thing probably would change is the connections, to JST"s but only had in whats in the bits boxes. Just need to get some cash off the tight bugger next!

Great looking rig made very simple - and no rickety IR mount to flop over or knock off target.

20 mag at over 250 yards is being greedy with any scope. :D

Nice tidy build!

Do you find the extra size and weight on the torch mount makes it a bit sloppy?

Not really no, theres no batteries in the box, so weight isn't an issue, t20 body and 80mm torch head don't weigh much, lens is the only real weight, looks better in real life than the photo, no new tech, just reworked with what I had in, in the field performance is more than enough and sweet :D

Very tidy build, can you point to that thumbscrew clamp that holds the dsa on?
Thanks...

Its off a Pulsar DSA, used the camlock on another addon build, so the thumb screw/ocular was spare, just unscrewed the rear piece out, and turned a shoulder onto a flowplast coupler, so they both fit together snuggly, then bonded in with some extra strong superglue, its not going anywhere! Also made a shim for the clamp end between the ocular and clamp, as found the ones supplied didn't quite fit right, didn't want to put tape on the ocular.
