cheapish nv set-up

Post by poppy mae » 15 Mar 2015, 17:29

Image Just of late, noticed a bit of interest in screen builds, heres my take on it, been using this set up over the last two years to good effect, done away with boxes etc on the scope, and kept it simple, screen fits onto a ball on the rear of the illuminator, so fully tiltable and moveable, whole unit attached to upside down mount with a piece of weaver rail, camera housed in a flowplast fitting and piece of rolson ally body, camera is an e700/25mm lens, I have used a cobra/merlin dsa, as I had one,but a push fit one could be easily made, battery is an elwire 5amp/hr one, fitted on the stock by 3" knicker elastic!. The whole set up was probably £180 all in bar the cobra dsa, this can easily do 200yds on 12-14 mag , 300 at 8-9 x with a good picture, 100yd can wind it upto 20x if you like, and not to difficult to make!

Image fitted on the rifle, the heads of the illuminator can be swopped from 66mm,74mm and 78 mm, if inside just swop the illuminator to a similar one with a 50mm lens and ball fitting on the rear. Somebloke will have a fit when he sees this anti-scopeless build  But it works, break down of costs.... illuminator- Rolson torch £6, lens £8,kaidomain, driver xp £11, olson £6...Screen £25 e-bay... camera E700 £57, 25mm lens £25, flowplast fitting 50p ....Battery £38 5amphr elwire craft....plugs approx. £3....wooden beads £2 for 10....knicker elastic to make stock pouch £1.50 a meter so comes in about £180 all in save the cobra dsa, Hope this helps and gives a few ideas , instead of using boxes everywhere.

 Some bloke would never rather see a battery and cabling to a stock pouch rather than a box with a battery and cabling hidden inside it.

Nice work, like the idea of interchangeable torch heads too. I've been looking to make a lighter version of my cruelant 66 without the box on the end, and having the option of different heads is a bonus.
Can you still get that style of Rolson torch? Had a quick ebay scan but the 95led rolsons look different, they're listed as "new" rolson...
Did you buy one each of the same size torch for each intended aspheric size or do they come in different sizes?
Regards,
Paul

Still buy the Rolsons I think, bought a few at one time, as they worked out about £7 each with postage, but that was a while ago, the 78mm lens housing is off a 105led flashlight, screws straight onto a rolson, as for the 66mmlens, used the end bezel off a crelant head, fits in the rolson head nicely and lens fits the bezel , voila! Only use the 78mm head and lens combo really. As for building the illuminator its really a take on the marky/lardy Maglite type conversion, only on this one there was enough meat on the flashlight body to screwcut a thread for the head instead of a cut and shunt job.
